Which vaccines do I need for WCh?
IFSS provides the list of required vaccines, and those required vaccines are listed below, based on 2024 requirements. This will be updated if anything changes for 2025.
Rabies vaccine – This can be a 3yr duration of immunity
Universal microchip stated ON rabies vaccine certificate (common universal brands include AVID, Home Again, Most AKC, 24PetWatch, etc)
DHPP (Distemper, Parvovirus, Adenovirus-2, including hepatitis and tracheo-bronchitis.) – This can be a 3yr duration of immunity.
Bordatella Bronchiseptica and Parainfluenza (Make sure to check your vaccine — oral vaccines MIGHT just be bordatella!)
IF your para-influenza vaccine is within the Distemper vaccine (DAPPV) it needs to be given WITHIN the year
Vaccines must be given minimum of 21 days prior to the stakeout for this race (That means vaccines need to be given by September 28 for this event)
What medications are not allowed for human and dog competitors?
IFSS provides multiple anti-doping resources which can be located here: https://sleddogsport.net/eng/77
For Dogs, see the Prohibited List here: https://racevets.org/content/uploads/2020/01/2020-Prohibited-List-DOGS.pdf to confirm that you are not administering any stated medications or using prohibited recovery methods during the event.
For humans, utilize https://www.wada-ama.org/en/prohibited-list to check your medications (including supplements). Some medications are banned at all times and some just within a certain amount of time before competition, so read carefully.
What should I do if my dog or I are not in compliance with the Anti-Doping rules listed above?
If you are on any prohibited medications, then you will need to submit a TUE (Therapeutic Use Exception) form [https://sleddogsport.net/eng/79] to IFSS as soon as possible. Note that submitting a TUE does not guarantee approval, so if you require a TUE, please submit the request form as soon as possible. IFSS states a standard 21 day approval or denial turnaround.
If your dog(s) are on a controlled medication as outlined here: https://sleddogsport.net/eng/80, then you will need to complete the appropriate Vet Med Form 1 with your veterinarian and bring that form with you to Vet Check onsite. If your dog is on thyroid hormone supplements, then the process is different, and you will need to submit Vet Med Form 2 to IFSS at dopingcontrol@sleddogsport.net a month prior to the race.
If I am selected to attend, when can I arrive onsite at Minocqua Winter Park?
Stake-out will begin on Saturday, October 18th and the venue will not be able to accommodate early arrivals, so please plan accordingly.
If I am selected to attend, will I be able to preview the course?
Yes! Exact details about when the course will be open to walk and open to run with dog teams will be shared
How many classes can I compete in for WCh?
Mushers are not limited on the number of classes they can be selected for, however IFSS rules limit the number of classes/miles a single dog can run during any given event. (insert exact rule here)
How much does it cost to compete in the WCh?
The official invitation will outline the per-class entry fee. We will update this once the invitation has been released.
How do I register for Relay?
Competitors do not register ahead for Relay. Each entered country/federation is able to commit to compete in the Relay, and each country/federation selects their team. Team USA will select the Relay team (or teams) based on the top performances during 1-dog bike, 1-dog scooter, and canicross at the WCh.
What length lines do I need to pack for my classes?
IFSS regulates the line lengths for all dryland classes as follows:
Canicross lines can be 4.9 feet – 8.2 feet in length when fully extended (measured from the rear of the dog to the belt buckle of the runner)
Bikejor lines can be 6.6 feet – 9.8 feet in length when fully extended (measured from the rear of the dog to the front axle of the bike)
Scooter lines can be 6.6 feet – 9.8 feet in length when fully extended (measured from the rear of the dog to the front axle of the scooter)
For Rigs, a 10′ emergency snub line must be attached to the rig.
All lines MUST be attached safely, so if you are using a carabiner or hook on the human side, it MUST be capable of locking and in the locked position.
Lines can be measured on the start so please measure your line ahead of time to be sure you are in regulation!
Team USA FAQs
How do I qualify for the World Championships?
There are two ways:
You can prequalify by attending enough IFSS World Cup Races the season prior to WCh. Depending on how you place in each IFSS sanctioned race, you will receive points. At the end of the season those points will be totaled by IFSS. The top 3 medalists in each class will automatically get a spot for WCh, if they would like. (For US teams you must still submit an application during the selection process to signify you want your pre-qualified spot)
Each country/federation has its own selection process. For USA competitors, you will submit an application to the USFSS selection committee. Once the application period closes the selection committee will review all applications and select athletes to fill available spots based on USFSS’s selection criteria. You can find the selection criteria on the USFSS website here.
When will selections for Team USA be?
Team USA selections will be held following the in progress Spring Dryland season. Exact dates will be announced, but you can expect selections to take place in Summer of 2025 with the goal of giving all selected competitors plenty of time to plan ahead.
Do I need to be a USFSS member to be selected for Team USA?
Yes! You need to have been a USFSS member for the 2024-2025 Dryland Season.
If I am eligible for Masters, do I have to apply to compete in masters?
No! Masters classes are only offered for 1-dog classes (1-dog bike, 1-dog scooter, and canicross). Athletes over the age of 40, as of the end of 2025, have the option to compete in these master classes, but are also eligible to apply for elite classes. While USFSS hopes to allow everyone to compete in the class they prefer, the ultimate decision on if an athlete is selected to compete in Masters or Elite will be up to the USFSS selection committee.
